Industrialization was blooming in Iran during early 1950s, when many cities like Tehran witnessed increase of population under large number of immigrants. It was a good cause for some Iranian architects to introduce kind of taste of beauty and harmony to the whole plan of the city.
Abdolaziz Farmanfarmayan (1920-2013) belongs to the throng of such architects. The Carpet Museum is one of his works of art. It was coincided with the erection of the Contemporary Art Museum in Tehran which was located somehow close to it, one of them exhibiting the most leading contemporary arts of the century and the latter presenting the treasure of Iranian local art of carpeting.
Farmanfarmayan spent the last 35 years outside Iran, and died on June, 3rd 2013 in Paris.
The idea of the architecture of the carpet museum was taken from the plan of a carpet. Plentiful high pillars of the exterior design resemble the carpeting frames creating a unique architecture. Geometrical plan of the interior design resembling carpet patterns, mostly in ceiling curves and shapes makes it a suitable place for exhibition of carpets.
